About Ledge
Ledge is the notch widget panel for macOS. Here is why it exists and what makes it different.
Why Ledge exists
The MacBook notch was doing nothing. Menu bars were doing too much. Every time you wanted the calendar you opened the calendar; every time you wanted the weather you opened the weather; every time you wanted to check a timer you unearthed the app that ran it. That’s a lot of context switches for information that fits on one screen if you have the space to put it there.
Ledge is that space. Push the cursor into the notch or press Option+Space and a panel unrolls with what you actually check: calendar, unread mail, todos, timer, weather, Now Playing, clipboard history, system stats, quick toggles, and about a dozen more widgets. Step away and it collapses. One glance up instead of five app switches.
What’s different about it
Two things. First, breadth — Ledge is one panel with 40+ widgets in it, not a single widget in a stand-alone app. Second, pages. You make your own arrangements of widgets and switch between them with one click: a Work page, a Home page, a Weekend page, a page for a specific project. First run offers Everyday and Developer defaults; neither is locked.
Ledge is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Fully local. No account, no analytics in the app, no server. The one network call is license verification through Polar, then offline for 30 days at a time. If that combination matters to you, that’s the pitch.
